In 2024, the leading US marathon events exceeded goals well beyond the finish line. Tracy Ingersoll, mission-motivated Human Services Professional, features the incredible fundraising accomplishments of TCS New York City Marathon, BAA Boston Marathon and Chicago Marathon:

For decades, the top three leading marathon events in the United States have made a mark on the impact of fundraising. In 2024, the big three of marathon charity programs slashed through the ribbons to set all-time high fundraising records. Exceeding their goals for the year, the marathons and affiliated nonprofit organizations made philanthropic history!
Fundraising Totals
Tracy Ingersoll, Boston native and proud Suffolk University alumnus, is honored to know that the BAA Boston Marathon leads the trio; taking in $71.9 million in fundraising. TCS New York City Marathon follows in second place, bringing in $70 million. The Chicago Marathon comes in third with an impressive $36 million haul to support nonprofit organizations throughout the city.
Positive Impact of Strategic Planning in Fundraising
Accomplishing such feats would not have been possible without strategic planning by the organization leaders who spearheaded the fundraising efforts. In New York, marathon organizers reduced the minimum entry requirement for charities to purchase. This opened the door for more nonprofit organizations to participate in the marathon and benefit from the program. In Chicago, the organization increased fundraising minimums, with the intention of increasing overall fundraising accumulation. The Boston Marathon has seen a meteoric rise in support over the years, attracting more and more first-time runners each race. Tracy Ingersoll likes to think that it is Boston pride that keeps Boston Strong marathon after marathon.
